The Farm - revegetation

Our 50 acre property was purchased in 1997 and the first vineyard, 4.2 hectares [10 acres] of Shiraz, established in 1998. This was followed in 2002 with 1.55 hectares [4.5 acres] of Tempranillo. An additional nine acres of vines were planned but the prescription of the Eastern Mt Lofty Ranges now limits us to our current water use level. Once a Water Allocation Plan is developed for the catchment then we may be able to increase our plantings but industrial condition will be the primary determinant of this decision combined with our view of the world and ourselves.

Revegetation

For the first 6 years we planted over 600 indigenous trees per year. These trees are now over 20 ft tall [3metres] and are providing shade for us. We are also working on conserving native vegetation and fostering native grasses in the mid-row in the vineyard as part of our water conservation strategy. By the river there are many rare native plants as well as native fish still surviving in the water of the river. An audit of endangered species has been undertaken and we have some very special plants. Contact us if you are interested in this aspect.
